Text types: Text formats for presenting information

'Types of ...'

We can use diagrams to show how things are categorised into groups. Such diagrams are very useful when teaching students how to classify the world around them. This type of diagram is often found in general descriptions.

The diagram below shows a main group (eg flowers) which is then divided into subgroups (or 'types': daisies, roses, violets). These subgroups can be divided into smaller categories if necessary (eg blue violets, white violets, pink violets).
