Timelines
Timeline diagrams are used to represent a series of events in the past (or even in the future). If your class is writing a recount of what happened on a recent excursion, they could develop a timeline diagram to guide their writing.
If the students are reading a recount (eg a biography of a famous person's life) they could show their comprehension of the text by constructing a timeline of the important events in that person's life. Timelines are also used to represent historical periods and can be found in historical recounts.
Here is a timeline diagram representing different stages in a person's life (though it could be adapted for other types of recounts):
Here is a timeline describing what happened during a class excursion to Ocean Park:
And here is another diagram showing how the dinosaurs became extinct.
You can adapt these diagrams to use with your class when they are reading or writing texts such as recounts, biographies, historical recounts, and so on.
Here is a simple timeline diagram that you can use with your class. You might need to modify it for a particular activity.
