Steps in a procedure

A diagram can be used to show the steps in a procedure such as a recipe, a craft activity or instructions for repairing something. Clear, accurate diagrams are very important in texts such as first aid instructions so that the steps can be followed easily and in the correct sequence in an emergency.

A simple set of steps could be represented in a more abstract way as follows:

Here is a diagram of a slightly more complicated procedure, where there is a choice during the procedure of following two alternative steps (ie 'do this' or 'do that'):
