There and there be
Some students confuse the use of there as an adverb
indicating place and the use of there be
to indicate existence:
Now I like England because there is very green and the people are very kind. (TeleNex Students)
Then we took a bus and went to Ocean Park. There was very beautiful.
(TeleNex Students)
Generally there as an adverb indicating place does not occur before the verb. In such sentences, it should be used as subject and there (usually optional) should come after the adjective:
Now I like England because it is very green (there) and the people are very kind.
Then we took a bus and went to Ocean Park. It was very beautiful (there).
For further information about using there to indicate place, see Representing when, where, how and why: Representing where (p 2).
For further information about using there be to indicate existence, see Representing being and having: Using there be to represent
existence and location.
