Problems associated with the that clause
Students sometimes have difficulty in using appropriate patterns with the that clause following thinking verbs:
Whenever I get in the bus it is always crowded with people. Also, the drivers talk with passengers. As we know that, this is prohibited as it could cause danger to passengers. (TeleNex Students)
In this case, the student has mistakenly assumed that there should be a pause after that. Here are two possible correct versions:
Whenever I get in the bus it is always crowded with people. Also, the drivers talk with passengers. As we know, this is prohibited as it could cause danger to passengers.
Whenever I get in the bus it is always crowded with people. Also, the drivers talk with passengers. We know that this is prohibited as it could cause danger to passengers.
