Passive voice with verbs other than action verbs
In many coursebooks and grammar books, passive voice tends to be illustrated only with
verbs representing actions. However, passive voice can also be used with other kinds
of verbs including: verbs that represent perception, such as see and hear ; verbs that represent attitudes, such as like and hate
; verbs that represent thinking, such as believe and understand
; verbs that represent saying, such as say and claim
; and some kinds of linking verbs, such as precede and
represent
.
