Types and styles of writing which contain nominalisation

It is important that English teachers help to prepare students for the type of language they can expect to encounter in their other subjects.

Mathematics, history, geography and especially science are all subjects in which nominalisation is a characteristic feature, and one of the reasons why so many students have problems understanding texts in these subjects.

In addition to these subjects, students will encounter nominalisation in a wide range of text types, such as:

bullet.gif (991 bytes) business letters and reports;
bullet.gif (991 bytes) academic essays and articles;
bullet.gif (991 bytes) legal documents; and
bullet.gif (991 bytes) scientific and technical writing.
