Inappropriate collocations

Many students are able to use nominalisations grammatically. However, in a large number of cases the verbs chosen are unusual or collocate inappropriately:

They would comb their hair or give some decoration on it.

When presenting or reviewing vocabulary, it is important to focus on the surrounding language, especially the verbs which go together with nouns such as these.
