Introduction

Speakers are able to indicate their opinion about how certain they are that something is true or likely to happen in a number of ways eg.gif (928 bytes).

This file gives details of the ways that adverbials gloss.gif (923 bytes) can be used to indicate degrees of likelihood, doubt and certainty. Note that different adverbials indicate varying degrees of likelihood:

Indicating high likelihood (certainty)

I will certainly be investigating these reports as a matter of urgency.
